Lotus Arts de Vivre has embellished one piece of camphor wood, embellished faces and ornaments are from sterling silver and gold-leafs. Eyes are made out of Tiger eyes, set on black marble stand.
Camphor Wood is highly resistant to insects and has attractive grain patterns; it long been used for making wardrobes and storage chests, and now as sculptures in the hands of Lotus Arts de Vivre. It is widely distributed south of the Yangzi River including Hainan Island, with the largest concentrations found in Taiwan, followed by Jiangxi and Fujian. The fragrance of camphor is intense after freshly cut, and its strong scent dimishes with time. The interlocked grain pattern of camphor imparts a light and dark striped figure patterned with its open pores appearing as slanted parallel lines in the radial surface.
Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King, is a main character in the Chinese classical novel Journey to the West. Sun Wukong is also found in many later stories and adaptations. In the novel, he is a monkey born from a stone who acquires supernatural powers through Taoist practices. After rebelling against heaven and being imprisoned under a mountain by the Buddha, he later accompanies the monk Xuanzang on a journey to retrieve Buddhist sutras from India.
