The inspiration of this collection emerged from the “curiosities of the western world” towards eastern and oriental objects. The west were hungry and most curious to acquire exotic objects which they only had heard of or read about in fairy tales and mythical legends. Additionally all the good things in life, like spices, silk, rubies, sapphires and diamonds as well as lacquer, came from the east. This historical exchange led to the inspiration and birth of the Lotus Arts de Vivre Carved Coconut collection, where coconut and shells are combined with rare carving artistry skills provided the beauty the buyers looked for in their eastern curiosities.
Siince the Coconut is harder than wood and normal wood carvers cannot manage this material, but Lotus Arts de Vivre was lucky that ivory carving became obsolete and lotus was able to use the ivory master carvers for carving coconut. Most famous western curiosity collections have carved coconut items on display. In Lotus Arts de vivre, coconut carving has become a matter of routine.
