Rank of Monk : พระครูสัญญาบัตร
Talapad for the Royal Monastery Provost
In the Thai tradition the ceremonial fans are an official sign of the monk's status as being eligible to grant ordination to others. The belief is that any reverence paid to a monk, is not to the person but to the yellow robe, and therefore the fan obscures the face when monks do their chanting.
The Talapads on show are mostly older than 100 years and belonged to senior ranked monks. At the time of creation many of these fans were designed by famous designers, like Prince Naris Voraridhi.
