An elegant clutch made from Indonesian sun-dried Rattan, hand-woven by artisans with traditional and oriental skills. The natural hues of the Rattan bag have been gilded with 24K gold leaf. The centerpiece of the bag has an exotic carved Mammoth bone fixed atop a beautiful abalone shell sheet. The monkey is made from black rhodium plated sterling silver, set with diamonds in the eyes.
This fashionably stylish oriental clutch is functional and equally versatile – perfect for a weekend brunch, a summer night out, a beach escapade, an evening cocktail, all effortlessly elevating a casual yet graceful vibe.
As a material, Rattan is a naturally growing vine that is native to tropical regions of Asia. Sourced from the Indonesian rainforests, the skin of the vine is peeled away and woven to create various works of art and utility, which Lotus Arts de Vivre transformed into a clutch. As a technique of weaving, ‘wicker’ is a style of weave commonly used for Asian household utility items. Dating back to ancient Egypt, wicker weave has seen a revival in the past century as a direct result of the general arts movement that began in the early 1900’s. Popular in antique and vintage designs, wicker also has modern applications, which Lotus Arts de Vivre pursues.
As a personality, the monkey totem symbolizes the monkeys as the master of mischievousness. This is because the monkeys usually tend to play tricks on people. Many Chinese try to give birth in a year of the Monkey, as they believe that this will make their babies clever. In China saying, "Your kid is like a Monkey," is perceived as praise.
