The Jade is from Myanmar and has been carved in China. Jade is featured prominently in ancient Asian art, but also has an important place in many other cultures. Jade was used to create many utilitarian and ceremonial objects and was considered the "Imperial Gem". Jade has had a special significance, comparable with that of gold and diamonds in the West.

Although jadeite deposits are found throughout the world (Guatemala, Japan, Russia, and California), Burma remains the primary source of best Jade. Myanmar's jadeite mines occupy a privileged place, representing a principal source of fine jadeite jade, hidden in the mountains where geography, soil, and climate all come together to produce the finest. The sourcing of the Jade from Myanmar and carving it in China began in 1780’s with Emperor Qianlong, who extended China's jurisdiction into northern Burma, calling it the “Imperial Gem”. From the late 18th century on, considerable amounts of jadeite were transported to Beijing and the workshops of China's foremost jade carvers, which continues to this day. Jade therefore was used for the finest objects and cult figures and for grave furnishings for high-ranking members of the Imperial family. It also became a favourite material for the crafting of Chinese scholars’ objects, such as rests for calligraphy brushes, as well as the mouthpieces of opium pipes.

The pearls used for this piece were specially procured to produce for Masterpieces, to which this beautiful pair of Earring belongs. Pearls were among the first precious stones to be worn by mankind. In ancient times pearls were featured in religious ornament and used for medicinal purposes and seen as symbols of purity and feminine charms. The ancient Japanese also believed that pearls were created from the tears of mythical creatures, such as mermaids, nymphs, and angels.
