Japanese Folding Chair (Kyokuroku) made in circa 1900. These fine Japanese folding armchairs, retractable to make it concise for movement. The wood is Red lacquered with the back rest gilt and carved with beautiful patterns. The Brass mounts and décor come with intricate floral engravings.

These chairs were originally introduced by Chinese Priests to Japan. They are most frequently found in Shinto Temples where they are used as decorative seating for Priests.  They were also used for festive occasions such as the imperial coronation and the Samurai clans took these folding chairs with them on their travels and campaigns.
