A gorgeous pair of carved jade earrings inspired by flying kites, that drop from a linear decoration of rubies, emeralds, and baguette diamonds. All gold is 18K.

The jades originated in Myanmar and was hand carved in China. Although jadeite deposits are found throughout the world (Guatemala, Japan, Russia, and California), Burma remains the primary source of best jade, hidden in the mountains where geography, soil, and climate all come together to produce the finest. The sourcing of the Jade from Myanmar and carving it in China began in 1780’s with Emperor Qianlong, who extended China's jurisdiction into northern Burma, calling it the “Imperial Gem”. Jade was therefore used for the finest objects and cult figures and for grave furnishings for high-ranking members of the Imperial family.

The art of carving jade has been practiced throughout history in China, and while modern tools have allowed more complex designs to be made, carving today remains an intensely painstaking and exacting art form. In order to get the most from their raw material, jade carvers need to closely study a stone’s colour, clarity and patterning before commencing the carving process. Carvers must appreciate the rarity and value of the jade they’re working, taking extreme care not to waste any of it.

After the carving of the Jade, this piece took 3 months to finish with over 7 craftsmen and designers involved at various stages.
