Lion sculpted from a single piece of rare ebony wood, eyes set with tiger's eye quartz, Sterling silver cast head, legs and tail.

The lion is a very diverse symbol. Its most common traits are: majesty, strength, courage, justice, and military might. Commonly referred to as "the KING of the beasts," it is a symbol of might and protection.

Ebony is a dense black hardwood, derived from the Ancient Egyptian hbny. It is dense enough to sink in water and it is finely-textured and has a very smooth finish when polished, making it valuable as an ornamental wood. By the end of the 16th century, fine cabinets for the luxury trade were made of ebony. The wood's dense hardness lent itself to refined moldings framing finely detailed carvings in very low relief (bas-relief), usually of allegorical subjects, or with scenes taken from classical history.

This piece can also be an casual dining implement as a large bowl, to serve fruits or to decorate flowers, apart from being a center piece in any luxurious living room.
