The centerpiece pearl used in this piece is Basra pearl, a highly precious variety of the natural pearl gemstone that originated from the Basra region of Persian Gulf (Iraq). These pearls have featured in recorded history as far back in time as 300 BC, and finding Basra Pearls in the 21st century is close to impossible, because it’s not available in the Arabian Sea and has to be collected from various sources from all over the world and then matched to design a piece. Pearls enhance the power of moon, which signifies softness, charming eyes, love, family life and a stronger mind. It is also believed that the pearl attracts a lot of fame, respect, wealth and good fortune. In the usual fascinating history of India's Jewels, pearls were treasured most among all other gems & was used prolifically, adorning the magnificent royal dresses of the Maharajas and Maharanis of India & woven into ornate decorative objects. Over the centuries, the Maharajas were known for their lavish taste & ornate decorations, which would reach near mythical proportions almost always with pearls.
