Hand-woven Silapacheep Silk from Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s Silapacheep Arts and Handicrafts Center, painstakingly crafted and jewelled into this sophisticated Handbag.

The handles of the bag is done in a Galucha cord, that is held onto the bag with Gold Plated Sterling Silver Lotus flower and Scarab beads. The corner bases of the bag has been decorated with Gold Plated Sterling Silver.

The frame of the bag is done in Gold Niello work, a traditional as a Thai art in between 1351-1767. The technique involves the craftsmen carving a design into silver (various metals can be used) and working with Gold and mercury to fill the relief. In Thailand, most temple or roof tops in Gold are done with Niellowork because it lasts for hundreds of years. Long associated with Nakhon Si Thammarat province, these items were traditionally tribute to the court of Bangkok that were subsequently redistributed by the king to high-ranking noblemen. Niello was also used in Ancient Egypt and Rome on a variety of objects including sword hilts, chalices, plates, horns, adornment for horses.

From artistic conceptualization to design to collaboratively finishing this Handbag took more than 3 months to complete with over 16 craftsmen involved at various stages.
