Handbag designed and made from a genuine Peacock feathers as a weft into a rare piece of an Obi, crafted carefully by a Japanese Obi legend of wisdom. The Obi, woven with Peacock Feathers was a revival of an ancient 500-year-old technique of weaving real peacock feather as weft. Only a certain Samurai general, who lived in between 1530~1578, could wear peacock feathers in ancient Japan. The craftsman weaves the feathers one by one in the same direction, so it takes about half a year to complete an Obi.
Once sourced, it was carefully cut around the formation of the design to be transformed into this majestic piece. It has been painstakingly decorated by Lotus Arts de Vivre crafts master. We selected out the right form and weight of Japanese bamboo wood for the handle, accentuated with solid gold plated Sterling Silver at various corners. The frame of the bag has been made from gold plated Sterling Silver decorated with beautiful patterns of our signature Scarab inlay crafts work. The small scarab wings in identical hue needed to be laboriously cut into tiny pieces and inlay them all around. The lock of the handbag has been designed with shell beads, decorated with lines of scarab set in a cloud inspired formation. The carved Green Jade at the center of the bag was sourced from Myanmar where we could find the exceptional quality and carved in China where the masters know how to carve Jade more than anyone. The bag stands on solid gold plated sterling silver highlighting the sense of elegance.
The peacock is a possessor of some of the most admired human characteristics and is a symbol of integrity and the beauty we can achieve when we endeavor to show our true colors. In history, myth, legend and lore the peacock symbolism carries signs of: Nobility, Holiness, Guidance, Protection and Watchfulness. In Chinese culture, the Peacock was a symbol of the Ming Dynasty, representing divinity, rank, power, and beauty. The peacock with its tail of 100 eyes is also associated with the goddess Guan Yin. In this sense, the peacock resembles protection and holiness. In decorative art, the peacock symbolizes dignity and beauty.
Rolf von Bueren’s inspiration started with their Peacocks at home in Bangkok, who hover around next to their bedroom in a spacious volaire and come right to the windows, where they knock on the glass. Once a year, the male shreds its gorgeous tail feathers while throughout the year they lose their feathers around its neck. Their beauty is beyond belief and their intelligence is amazing. Rolf von Bueren constantly wondered of how the beauty of the Peacock is to be ‘transferred’ for humans to experience. The result is a ‘Peacock Feather Collection’, jewelled and transformed into Jewelry and Home Décor and the creations continue to come out.
